Communication Strategies and Solutions for the Contemporary Pageant Woman

about me

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

I had two answers to that question—a princess and an air hostess. Somewhere along the way, writing got in the way.

When I got older, I was bitten by the media bug. I hold a BA in communications from the University of New Orleans. During my senior year, I interned at WWOZ, which was a brand new radio station at the time. I still go there to help out when I can. I also did a late night show at KRVS, Lafayette, LA. I read for the blind on WRBH, the first radio station of its kind broadcasting reading materials for the vision impaired.

In 1999, I ventured into new media with my web serial, “Northern Lights”. It gained a small but faithful following. This was where I learned the nuts and bolts of website design. I’ve gone on to design and maintain websites for various organizations, and currently serve as webmaster for District 68 Toastmasters (Louisiana, southwest Mississippi and Beaumont, Texas).

Not only do I do websites, but I also write and speak. I’ve been a member of Toastmasters International since 2003 and have supported and mentored my fellow members in reaching their communication and leadership goals. I’m still learning (you’re never too old!), and would love to help you achieve your dreams!

A few fun facts about me: I hold an amateur (ham) radio license. A good game of mahjong (the traditional 4-player game, not the solitaire) helps me relax.  I joined a sorority at age 45. I’m a huge science fiction fan, especially Star Trek and Doctor Who! Frogs are my lucky charms (though I don’t know if they’re magically delicious!). And I live in the world’s most interesting city—New Orleans!

I never got to be an air hostess or a princess, but I can still dream, can’t I?

media

In my years of working with pageantry, I have heard, more often than not, "someone should write a how-to book".  I saw that need. I wrote and published Myths America: A Practical Guide to Pageantry.

I also produced Adventures in Pageantry, a podcast taking listeners inside "the world of Miss America, from a unique perspective".  The podcast is now broadening its horizons and will showcase pageantry the world over.
